Grand Woodworks holds FSC® Chain of Custody certification — certificate code FSC® C208306. For consultants, contractors and developers specifying timber in the UAE, that code matters more than it might first appear.
What FSC® Chain of Custody means
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certifies forests that are managed responsibly. Chain of Custody certification tracks certified material through every step of the supply chain, from the forest to the finished product, so a certified claim on the final joinery can be trusted and verified.
As a Chain of Custody certified manufacturer, we can supply FSC®-certified timber products and keep the documentation that proves where the material came from.
Why it matters on green building projects
Green building rating systems used in the UAE — LEED, Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Pearl Rating System and Dubai’s Al Sa’fat — all reward responsibly sourced materials. On many projects, certified timber is written into the specification, and an FSC®-certified joinery supplier is often a requirement to get onto the tender list.
Choosing a certified manufacturer early helps the project team:
- meet material-sourcing requirements in the specification;
- collect the certificates and documentation needed for rating submissions;
- avoid late substitutions when uncertified material cannot be accepted.
Part of a wider commitment
FSC® certification sits alongside our ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system, ISO 9001:2015 quality management and ISO 45001:2018 occupational health and safety certifications. We were also among the first in the field to work on the LEED-Platinum certified buildings of Masdar City in Abu Dhabi — the sustainability hub of the Middle East.
